-> We set up a test sever running the new DeFRaG version cgg released a few days ago.
It will not is not running a record system and is only there so you can built your own opinion about the new version. You should also give cgg some feedback at http://cggdev.org/. You don't need to download the new version your self, though. The old and the new version are compatible.

85.25.20.179:27963 is the beta testserver

I would say obviously all servers should be updated to the new version, makes everything a lot fairer - however that would then mean many times in the database would become unbeatable so would this update come along with a database times reset? I know a number of people would find this pretty painful.

How would times become unbeatable? It's not like 99% of the maps involved a lag of any kind.
    And those are still resettable

"Should we change all the servers to version 1.91.09?"

Sorry, but what kind of a question is this? There is a defrag update after 3 years that bring the main fixes desired for all the time! And you ask about whether you should update the servers or not? I'm confused...

Alright, probably the only times that would become 'unbeatable' (with the occasional exception) are those that take under a couple of seconds (e.g. I'm sure you can't get under about 0.440 on enterofilia without lag), however I'm also sure times from many maps will become extremly hard to beat simply because some of the times done atm were assisted by lag. Also you can't reset specific times as it's impossible to know without the actual demos (and possibly not even then) which times were lag-assisted.

  9. Aug 19th, '08, 15:17 QUOTE

I dont understand you Razer... From your posts i have the feeling that you want lag cheats to be left so that people can beat times...?!? Isnt it better and easyer to fix the lag issues and just delete the lagged times or...?

No, I am saying updating the servers (which I believe is a good thing) will invalidate practicaly all current map times (as you can't tell which ones are lagged or not), so while not very desirable, the best solution I can see is to wipe the records and start again from scratch (once cgg is sure the new code is completley unbiased and lag independant).

So you want every logged time from everyone to be removed ? im sure that alot of people wont like that idea,

hk: what do you wrote in your news post :P *bohrbohr*

of course we update to new version and reset the specifics maps with trigger lag...but first we testing with our recordsystem...

The lag issues (timerlag and triggerlag) are completely fixed, that's what it seems like!

If there are maps where lag was used to TR, it's np for someone to report it when he comes across them. There are a few, but not that much to call yet another reset.

  14. Aug 19th, '08, 19:10 QUOTE

its obvious why NOT all server should be changed to new version,
i bet its not tested for more than 20 hours yet, and its still a beta, and there will be very soon a new version... changed server to it with recordsystem activated may fuck up records when a bug gets found and abused.

So we're back to - you can't know which times are lagged, and so also can not know which times are impossible to beat so updating to the new version on all servers will mean that the top times on many maps become unbeatable.

take away everyones work because a few times may be 'unbeatable' ? seems rather lame

handle the 'unbeatable' times on a case by case basis... i doubt there are that many to be dealt with anyway

  19. Aug 20th, '08, 07:26 QUOTE

What do you mean unbeatable times? How would those times become unbeatable with the update of the servers? Are you saying that we should leave the lag cheats so that you can beat "those" times...?!?

Even so not all times involve a lag, still some slower times like 3th or 4th (specially in fastcaps) still contain lags which are impossible to find out which are and which aren't
I'd be all for a reset of atleast the fastcaps rankings

    Aug 20th, '08, 15:54 QUOTE

But, if that's the case you gotta be damn sure the rankings can't be cheated anymore :)

I realize poeple like yourself have worked very hard on records and might not be able to do some of them again, myself included (q3wcp21,q3wcp22 etc)
But you never are certain these times aren't lagged for a few frames, say 0.1 second...
might also be the reason you won't be able to do them again but not sure
this is why I'd be in for a reset because then you can finally compete without a random factor so to say :)
