This discussion is a bit old, but I'll put it simply.
The formula is (50 * 2^(((w + 1) - Rank)/w)). If you set w to 3, you'll get 100, 79, 63 etc. However, a value of 2 proved to give more realistic rankings for the DFWC 2010 finalists - kop4ik got a well-deserved win, and glm, Bazz and ZyaX got more appropriate ranks.
It is in fact based on the Formula 1 system, with the advantage that it's more consistent and less arbitrary. 100/71 = 71/50 = 50/35 etc; there's the exact same percental gap between all ranks.

Usually the last map is the hardest one no? Because in the last round should be only the best players - based on round elimination. So if he can't be first on the hardest map - does he deserve to be rank 1? No.
If he has a first place on all the other maps, yes he does. The fact that the map is easy doesn't mean that the first place is. Furthermore a map is subjective - easy for some, hard for others. That's why the points system is better - it shows who's best throughout the cup, not just the last map.
I understand arguing about the formula, but about the system? NO.

Defrag is not car racing. This scoring system is stupid. Elimination between rounds is how it should be. The last round should be between four people in each physic. The winner of that is the winner. The winner of that need not win every previous round, or any previous round, but merely qualify for the final round. This is logical.
