Edit: Better than ratings from 1 to 5 is ofc a simple "Like it"/"Don't like it". It always is.

there already IS such a command.
check "!help"

Here is what i will do:
Since many players changed their mind on my suggestion I will not implement it. I started to rewrite the mapupdate script, though. The new version will finally be automated again.

I'm surprised that most mappers haven't even discovered the one-time-trigger start timer, as seen in test_bigbox... LOLOL!!

But it's not that I would like all maps from now on to have such a timer, or a player clip. Some maps get a brand new dimension with timer reset, and I'm guessing that some mappers like to add this extra dimension to their maps. Keep up the good work all mappers and create whatever you like best, as long as you don't absentmindedly release a map that you're not entirely satisfied with to later upload a -fix map :EEE!

cheers

Sorry for reviving old post, but I just noticed this, in all honesty, if this was available, I would delete 95% of the maps I've made. Because now that I look back I honestly regret putting out maps I never was really pleased with, gameplay or design.... mostly gameplay lol.

final input: more map quality? F2.

This may be old news but as a mapper I'd like to give my input. Here's the map details page for jjm2. It's currently at 1658 hits and one of the most downloaded maps on q3a.ath.cx.

http://q3a.ath.cx/?mapdetails=jjm2

I just gave it a rating. It still doesn't even have the minimum 10 votes it requires to show me a rating. Bottom line is people don't using this voting feature and if the servers required votes most maps would never get uploaded out of sheer laziness. Some people would obviously start voting if this happened because they were forced into it but there would still be many maps that never make it on to the server because of people who don't vote.

Also. Take a looks at the million maps released by mappers like licktor and pornstar. I mean no disrespect to either of them but a lot of their maps are something that they most likely pulled out of their asses in 30 min. Regardless many of them are still quite fun to play and I think that's the important part is it not? And they are both capable of producing "good-looking" maps but making short little maps with simple texturing is faster and offers more df runs for people to do without having to wait a month at a time for each next release.

I think the best method of combating bad mapping will be to compile a complete mapper's guide that teaches mapper's good mapping habits right from the basics. I've searched all over and found many great tutorials on mapping but right from the very practice of learning your "first room" tutorial they teach you bad habits. It's not until you get into more advanced tutorials that these habits get fixed. This is something I would be interested in doing in the future maybe but currently I don't have the time required for such a project :(

Check out the guide over at http://q3a.ath.cx pan spend some time on that one. You could add some content.

Yes that's probably the best one out there so far but again far from complete and I don't think that many people actually look at it.
