Server requirements...

Postby UNIverse@War » Dec 7th, '11, 10:41 pm

Obviously a server would need to be deemed worthy.
What are the requirements to have the server report stats to this site?
The one thing I notice is that all of the servers on this site run the linux ioq3ded.
I also assume the mod is custom...

I also have a suggestion...
IP address's are hard to remember. Why don't you guys setup a few DNS's with a free provider like afraid.org?
The dns name would replace the IP...
Then we would only need to remember the port # if it's not the default port.
I can make my own dns's for your servers but... you guys should have them.
There is a minor issue in linux with ip6 and dns names. But I think all you need to do is specify the dns in your hosts file...

Anyway thanks :p

We do have DNS names like "vq3.qdf.org" for the mDd servers. That's what we registered the subnet for. However we do not have dns names for those boxes which run multiple quake servers on a single IP-Address. The website is autogenerated so we'll see what we can do about putting DNS names in there without hardcoding them.

To connect a server to the mDd website you have to run a quake server of your choice(ioquake3 prefered) with defrag and our proxymod.
The proxymod is a .so(prefered) library or .dll if running on windows, that goes into the defrag directory and is loaded before the defrag VM.
To list the detailed stats the main server sends a special rcon command to the servers. The proxymod is essential for everything to work since we came up with a lot of custom commands and features.
You IP-Address needs to be static and the connection to us should be stable.

There are other non-technical requirements, too.
We do not need another server in europe.
The server administrator should be able to express himself in English. (GTK is an exception because I ended up administrating that server my self)

Thanks for the reply

I am very interested. My server is in the US (NY). IP is static I am running a windows server which is using the qauke3.exe
My servers name is .GR. Duel and it is on the default port.
The IP is - 74.63.54.45 I also have a dns setup which is - gr.pwnz.org
Would I need every map on my server?
Would I be required to issue rcon to anyone?

Anyway consider me and my server :D

You can still have a dns for these games.
The port is specfic so its up to us to remember the numbers. (vq3.qdf.org:27961)
Keeping them sequential from default up is good. (27960, 27961, etc)

We now patched some issues out of our proxymod. We would like to try it with your server.
I'll send you a mail.

Greetings from H3LL hk!!

It has been a dream of mine since back in teh mouse-potato days to have MINIONS DeFraG to be a database scripted server  . Our Defrag server has a solid 100M/5M connection, and has pretty much run 24-7 since 2005 or 6 except for a few stints of absence. I contacted my ISP; DAMN...it would be and extra $25USD per month to have a static IP.

Regardless, from reading the thread - I understand that I CAN run a windows server instead of lynix, correct? I can switch to lynix but i would prefer not to.

I am beginning to understand I COULD set up to have say... MINIONS.DEFRAG.COM assigned to my dynamic ip, which through an application for the server would actually update its dynamic IP to a static one that the MDD script could then use ( L0Lz i think) :geek:

1) IS it required to have a STATIC IP?
2) IS minions.defrag.com OK instead of static IP address?
3) IS IT REQUIRED FOR THE SERVER TO RUN LYNIX?
4) AM I A COMPLETE MORON OF WHOM SHOULD PISS OFF LoLz?!?

thanks for the help and i HOPE i havent wasted your time!
