Postby aXos » Oct 31st, '17, 8:26 am

Hello everybody! First of all sorries to dqopb about promising a map and failing horribly :( I will map for next DFWC I promise. Anyway, let's discuss about maps of DFWC2017 here soon!

Nobody cares about me or my opinion, but I'll write it down anyways.

DFWC2017-1

I don't like the look of the first map very much. DFWC2014 had some amazing looking maps. This one looks a lot more bland and dated. That being said - the gameplay feels very oldschool as well, and I actually really grew to like it. No weird OBs, or speed boosts, no nonsense. Decent challenges, nothing too hard on it's own, but getting a flawless run isn't trivial at all. Overall it's a really decent first map imho. There isn't that much space for different routes, but we'll probably get to see that later on in the cup.

3.5/5 - Solid!

Map looks good, gameplay is fun even though there aren't that many routes.

My only real criticism is that, for a first map, it is quite long (and possibly quite hard for new players too). But given the usual map shortage on dfwc's I assume there weren't many better options.

Anyway, I like it, solid map with few surprises.

dfwc2017-1 for me: fun for scratch, boring to grind.
not going for more attempts unless i come up with new ideas.

I know DsC_Creep mentioned that the map looks dated/bland in the above post but I am a bit surprised to be hearing this. Maybe I am just in love with architecture in the style of European medieval architecture or even a "Prince of Persia" type vibe. I'm not an architect so I don't even know what you would describe this map but I love it and I like the iconography (religious art) on the sides, gives the map like an Assassin's Creed kind of vibe.

Also, I like that the map is a bit bland in color (colors are not overwhelming and easy on the eyes) Creep because in my opinion it makes it easy on the eyes which is especially important since it does feel a little long for a first map and will need multiple runs unlike other DFWC's round 1 :)

Beautiful art style, props to whomever found these textures and nice curves on the walls. I love the ogees (arches) in the European style derived from middle eastern influences http://islamic-arts.org/2011/islamic_arches/

yours truly,
vitric

Round 1 map is ok. Nice flow, simple tricks and it looks fine. I hope that it's not too hard for newbies though, because some of those tricks require a bit of skill. Also, some of the design decisions are rather questionable for vq3, but overall I'd give it 6/9

EDIT: I take that back, I hate this map. It's like a wet fart in vq3
