Bot competition 2014?

Postby dqopb » Oct 17th, '14, 11:39 am

Last time khetti proposed a bot competition on dfwc2012 maps.
Although none of the so called competitors has singly finished all the maps in either vq3 or cpm, all the map/physics are completed with joint efforts of several participants (several of them me).
A movie is in production, now even closer to its final release.

As usually, the question is whether there will be enough participants.
Some maps may happen to be less suitable for scripting or strafebot, also it may take much longer than a week to script a map sometimes. If so, we can make it free format like last time. Or still try to make a real competition.

Disclaimer:
If you dislike bots and aided stuff, please ignore this thread. Bots don't claim your deserved place in the legit table.

I think a bunch of people working on routes together is actually a cooler dynamic - the "botcomp" won't be as much of a competition as just one single run that's as good as it gets, pushing the limits of the engine as far as they can go.

That said, I still have no problem with a competitive bot competition. Bot runs are great.
wtf i have a signature?

Camping_Gaz should come back specifically for this competition. His innovation and execution was always second to none. +1

regardless of the amount of participants, just go ahead and call it a competition. people who want to play will join, and those who don't care won't fuck with it. I don't remember the legit DFWC asking everyone who's going to play so they can decide whether to host it or not

I'm looking foward to see crazy routes and frame perfect scripts again! I don't think the timelines and teamwork rules need to be as strict as in the normal cup.

Thanks guys for such a warm welcome to my proposition.
I see some people would like to see it happen, and that's great.
But who is ready to say "Yes, I will compete", or "Yes, I will help to cover some of the maps/parts"?

I bot-scripted 2 maps before the corresponding rounds ended.
But I sucked with routes both times, so I lost the enthusiasm to continue.
Also, nobody responded willing to take a part, so I decided to not script the rest maps.

I will just upload the demos if someone is interested in bad bot routes =)

Btw I recorded another boted one before the round end.
This one is not a solid record at all, just a test of the route. The rocket awaiting shows that cutting at least 600 ms out from this demo is possible, + better strafe etc etc. I assume a 11.xxx vq3 time is possible.
