Write something that makes the default quake 3 arena auto download working.
This will require a server modification but anyone with a stuck install can play on your servers.
If anyone is asking why the download is that slow he can still use cl_mapAutoDownload 1, cl_allowDownload 0 and dl_source "http://worldspawn.org/maps/download/%m" with dfengine or any other engine.

Actually, I did that some time ago. But it caused the "on connect" lag that many player hate so much. That's why I took it out again.

Our quake3 servers don't have the full pk3s. just the BSP.

I just got an idea. MAYBE, we can trick the client into thinking the current map is test_bigbox. Then it would load "test_bigbox" and join into the game. Everybody has that map so it can be loded. Everything would look broken because the currently running map is not test bigbox, but the player is able to join the game.
Then the server can spam him with the message to deactivate auto downloading and getting the map manually.
Then the client is kicked.

How about sending some red text for console? That says something like disable auto download and manually download maps or use the auto download of dfengine/ioquake3.

Isn't that already the case? Loading the menu however also writes 100+ Lines into the console after that.
