I think adding the TA weapons would do it - I imagine the proximity mines really cool in Trickjump mode...

Proximity mines are just "i can have rocket explosion almost everywhere"Just look how poor they look in QL. There won't be any benefits from them.
"strafe is the most important 'weapon' in defrag" - <hk>

It think there will be a benefit. Mining yourself, other ppl(people) or putting them on walls will give lots of new fresh wind to freestyle. If you dont wanna use them - dont. They are like nades but instead of bouncing around, they stick to surfaces...

albeit that i might not like every idea originally posted here,
some of the aforementioned are closely related to the items that
have accumulated on my own wish-list (which not published anywhere yet).
here is my interpretation of them;
*New weapons are appealing, and this possibility seems endless in nature.
when beginning a project of such ambiguity, the team or individual who
develops it may like to have a 'solid' idea or plan, and guidelines for
it all... in the strongest possible sense, my suggestions for that
'plan' are;
*the Nailgun. ...i really miss the nailgun. (from the original quake)
*the supernailgun (redundant, yet worthy of mention)
*the axe (perhaps useless in this case)
*the lightning gun. moreover, the effect of using the lightning-gun
in water. (discharges into the water depleting all the cells
(ammo)all at once, damaging or killing everything in contact with
the water. [it was a brilliant touch of realism]
*also, the original TeamFortress weapons-set might provide more material or ideas on 'new weapons'.
====
new entities were mentioned.. if i had to name a suggestion for that,
then personally, i would pick 'monsters', but that's almost rediculous
for defrag.
====
i was unaware that there existed a wiki for defrag tutorials...
this sounds great because (obviously) the public can add and edit this
themselves, thereby reducing the workload of the dedicated people who
provide and maintain defrag as we know it... the problem (so i infer) seems that the wiki has been neglected, and my suggestion is that
a link (icon) to the wiki may be placed alongside the links (icons)
that we use to download maps or review the details of it.
ideally this link would be to the tutorial that pertains to the current
map, or any tutorial that has been marked as related information.
====
Dedication.... i have been playing quake since 1996 and the longer this
game remains populated, the more i believe that it will never die!
i have spent (or wasted) more time playing quake than my entire
academic career (school) and would lovingly redirect some of my efforts
toward the prolongation of quake....
working on stuff is time consuming and often difficult or frustrating.
to ease the work load on those who already do this work, it is my
wish that us dedicated quakers have the opportunity to contribute and
collaborate our efforts on these common goals, and that we could
bear-forth our unique capabilities/skills/talents in a way that
would be directly usable by the more experienced people
such as programmers and administrators.

====
as far as a 'storyline' goes... trust me, this could definitely be
my contribution. i was writing an unofficial continuation of the quake
storyline based exactly and strictly from the combined story-lines of
the original quake and it's add-ons, quake 2 and it's add-ons, (also the correlation between quake and doom, if indeed logic would allow for that) and then comes quake 3...kinda blurry at that point...quake 4 is simply then combined with the q2 chapter (duh) and now perhaps even
defrag could be included :) although the purpose of my writing this conglomeration of story-lines was to set-forth the premise by which Quake 5 should be founded.
( go ahead and laugh :D it'll happen some day)
====
last but not least is the mention of an encyclopedia... i assume that
the suggestion was explicitly for defrag terminology and such, but this
strikes a chord with one item on my personal wishlist, perhaps equal in
magnitude... a Translator. :)
====
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

VOIP stuff is done with IOQ3 already. Besides, that's an engine thing.

I don't think standalone is feasible. I'm no lawyer but I remember when URT went IOQ3 standalone there was some disagreement about whether or not URT devs had to release URT source as they were now bundling an engine and a mod. Anyways, I think that's how it went down.

Guys this is all fine and well, but I'm surprised no one has addressed the elephant in the room. There is one crippling flaw that is present in Q3 and nearly all of its derivatives. This flaw has been the single thing preventing me from fully enjoying Defrag during the past year-or-two that I have been playing it.

The inability to write % in the chat.

I'm seriously considering switching to Call of Duty because of this.

Would be useful to watch demos via Miniview. Sometimes you are playing a map and want to check a demo for the route. So the procedure would be to run another instance of defrag and run the demo there and then switch back (and repeat those steps if you have a bad short term memory).

Running a demo one frame at a time would be nice. I don't know if that is possible from a qvm.
