I've proposed this already. :3
Well, my final idea was !mapinfo detail, possibly including pk3 size.

i was thinking that too, but couldnt think of any other info thats really necessary. i suppose you could just throw in a bunch of (seemingly) useless stuff, like md5 and filesize and stuff. but release date should definitely be on the normal !mapinfo

I don't remember. Ask again maybe he got them by now for another reason. Map stuff is Pan's database. Access to it is limited.

I personally don't think this feature is any useful.

I personally don't think this feature is any useful.

join a server
download a map
have a bunch of missing textures
leave game
go to q3a.ath.cx
go to map page
look for texture dependencies
download more maps
move to defrag folder
launch game
connect to server


kind of annoying process, when dfengine has an autodownload feature inside it. if !mapinfo showed what maps had the textures that the current map needed, then you could just download them right there. ofc, thats only useful for dfengine users, but it would also save some time even if you didnt use dfengine.

i think its a good idea.

Pan is at than question for a year now. The problem is to find the right pk3s with the right textures you need. That's a NP incomplete problem. Which means extremely CPU hungry.
Pan wanted the required pk3s to be displayed on the website. The dfengine cannot handle additional pk3s for downloading. It can only download the single pk3 for the bsp file.

im not talking automatic downloading of all the maps that are required.

im talking about !mapinfo showing what maps have the textures, so you can manually download them. it would work the exact same as normal map downloading (/download <mapname>).

right, the majority of the time you won't need to dl any extra maps...

step 1, notice you're missing textures
step 2, !mapinfo detailed
step 3 /download mapwithtextures.pk3

sounds like a nice idea :)
