Noob question

Maps and the process of creating them

Supppppp, I'm still learning the mapping stuff and got a problem with some sort of "effect". Just don't know how to use it :lol: :lol: :lol:
By the way it looks, I understand that it should add some sort of atmosphere to the map... but :doh:

Any suggestions about "what is it" and "how to use it" ? :violin:

Are you talking about adding a "sky"?

I'm talking about the small pictures in the textures window "envmap" "envmapgold" etc.

I think what you selected there is just a random effect. You have to write a shader file to apply it to your textures.

Here is a tutorial to get you up to speed about shaders:

Those textures are normally part of a shader and makes things shiney - faking a reflecting surface.

that specific texture is used for the health powerups if i remember correctly.

but yes u can apply those textures to glass or something like that

protip * shaders have white borders around the thumbnails *
made a quick ex-map + shader for you, just unpack into baseq3.
