hm, i would more concentrate on the essential stuff like: editor, compiler, defrag.def and maybe q3ase

those are the most essential ones.

I think q3ase is a huge help as well. I can code shaders in notepad but it`s soo much easier to see a preview of it in q3ase so you don`t have to keep loading up q3 each time to see what it looks like. Makes things much faster :)

I use GtkRadiant 1.4. Infinitely better than 1.5. Net Radiant I have not tried but it says it`s based on version 1.5 so that`s enough reason for me to stay away from it.

editor: 1.4 or 1.5 ? What is the problem with using new version ?
What version is better(features&user interface) for newcomers ? And what version (maybe NET Radiant) have a chance of future support ?

compiler: Q3map2,q3map2GUI right ?

defrag.def and q3ase will be included(i wonder if i should wait for new entitles update). Shader Editor also.

the difference btwn 1.4 and 1.5 is personal taste i think, so if i were you i would try both versions, i know a lot of ppl(people) that would rather use 1.4 mainly because a lot of the shortcuts are teh same from older versions. in 1.5 they changed all that, for example i could tell u a hotkey to thicken patcehs is control t.. in 1.5 that hotkey doesnt exist unless u edit you shortcut.ini file.

*you can use both version 1.4 and 1.5*

GtkRadiant 1.6 is in development for Quake Live mapping and will be backwards compatible for Quake 3 and all other Radiant supported games. It is being based off of the code for 1.4 which is more stable and more importantly: more popular. Enough said. I used to use 1.5 occasionally for a few things that 1.5 doesn't do but other than those few things 1.4 is overall better and faster to map in. Atm I can't even get 1.5 working on windows 7 and it's really not that important to me so I haven't bothered to figure out the problem.

There's a link in the article (very small article) to get in contact with the developers to help out if anyone is interested.

Some new and improved features in 1.5:

* Enhanced Texturebrowser, makes browsing your textures alot easier. A detailed documentation can be found here: ETB-Documentation
* Texturetagging, create custom categories for your textures to get a better workflow
* Brushexport Plugin, export selected Brushes as Wavefront files and load them into your 3D application (Documentation)
* Lighting previewmode for Doom3, Quake 4 etc (Press F3).
* Improved camera strafing (Ctrl), press (Ctrl + shift) to strafe forward
* Adjustable strafespeed (Shift with KeyPad+, KeyPad-)
* Select inside/touching now work with multiple selectionbrushes allowing complex selectionshapes
* Vista compatibility
* UI improvements
* Sunplug (Mapcoordinator-plugin for ET)
* Support for many more games: Doom3, Quake 4, Prey, Warsow, Nexuiz etc
* Maya-style tools for translate (w) and rotate (r):
* Axis-constrained translate/rotate in 2d and 3d views
* Outliner (aka entity lister), shows an editable tree-view of the current scene
* Faster rendering using frustum culling
* Very fast undo, even with large changes.
* Complete update of all libraries
* Tons of bugfixes
* Much more

How 1.4 can be better :?: If the GtkRadiant? 1.6 will be released i will change/add it but for now NETRadiant + Q3 pack will be in PI.

For GTKRadiant 1.5 to work in Win 7 you need to switch to a non-Aero theme..
