+left at fixed yawspeed

Postby <hk> » Oct 12th, '09, 8:20 pm

Since, not everyone seems to be pleased with the current server rules i suggest we develop new rules for the server here in this thread. Please try to find rules that have as least exceptions as possible. I want this to be constructive, so please make short posts which concentrate on essential things. Stay on Topic and do not spam.

 This thread is dedicated to the "+left" bind only.

It's open for discussion if the quake3 standard yaw value has to be used or if it's allowed to change it once BEFORE starting the run.

I think +left and +right are ok. As long as you do not change he yaw speed during runs.

Not cheat.

ppl(people), just lrn2use your mouse for turning

Of course +left, +right isn't cheating,, because it's one of the basic binds but still like... i think it was Zyax, said, it gives a pretty good advantage in maps with high speed turns.
Oh and "As long as you do not change he yaw speed during runs.", I think it should be prohibited to change anything to the yawspeed -_-'

So changing the value of cl_yawspeed to something other than 140 (quake default) should be banned?

cl_yawspeed is a command that you can change in default q3 console, should that be called cheating?
If you change cg_fov, is that cheating?
Difference if, as hk said, binding different yawspeeds or have some kind of auto change could be called cheating in my opinion.

I don't play strafe so i don't really care about this rule but it's just some thoughts i have about it :)

The difference with fov and yawspeed is that yawspeed in combination with +left/+right can give you a big advantage in defrag on some maps in cpm.

I do NOT think this should be allowed. It seems to be like you guys are exaggerating the difference between modifying yawspeed during the run and having a static value throughout the run. And even if you force it so that it is only allowed to use cl_yawspeed 140. But what if there is a map, or will come a map where there will only be perhaps one turn, in which you will have the exact speed so that 140 yawspeed is the perfect value? We are allowed to "cheat" on that one map but not on others?
This is a dangerous path here, allowing something small in the beginning will make it easier for bigger cheats to be accepted in the future.

Even +left/+right turns at fixed yaw speeds can give a huge advantage on maps with a big, high-speed turn (pornstar-gaand, lovet-second, pornstar-zzz for example).

its not a cheat but srsly having to aid oneself with turn binds, at least when being logged in, is plain pathetic and pitiful

Well, if you answer the direct poll question then; "Should this helper be free to use?" :P
